English I and Reading I

                                              English I Syllabus

THS 2017-2018                                        

WELCOME BACK!  I’m looking forward to having an outstanding and successful year.  I sincerely hope you are too.

Rules

1.   All school rules as listed in the student handbook will apply in this class.

2.   Be respectful and courteous – even when others are not.

3.   Listen CAREFULLY in class.

      4.   Keep your teacher happy!!

 

Procedures  

      1.   After an absence, use the “MAKE-UP FOLDER” for missed assignments.  It

            is YOUR responsibility to complete any and all work and/or make arrangements

            for tests or essays.  Speak to me after class if necessary.

2.   Turn homework/make-up work in on time.  I will call for your work at the

      beginning of the period and will be placed in the turn-in tray. Participate in class

      and remain on task the entire period until I dismiss you.

3.   Remember to groom yourself in the restroom between classes, not in my class.

      No spraying of perfumed/scented products EVER!   Respect others’ right to

      breathe.

4.   Always ask questions and request assistance when you don’t understand

      something.  BE RESPONSIBLE!

      5.   If you fail a test or quiz, you have 5 school days to make up the test as per the Grading Policy (see below).

Supplies

      (1) composition notebook (not spiral)

      (1) 1” or 2” three ring binder and 5 dividers

loose-leaf notebook paper (wide rule)

blue/black/red pens

 

OPTIONAL ITEMS:

1 package of highlighters (pink, blue, green).

1 box of tissues

   

Deadline for supplies is September 4th.  Discreetly let me know if you need assistance of any kind purchasing these supplies. 

 

It may be beneficial to have the English I textbook at home.  We will be reading and writing about a variety of literature. *

Tutorial Schedule     

            Monday – I have duty morning and afternoon.

            Tuesday – 7:30-7:55 AM or 3:40 -4:30 PM

            Wednesday – Department Meeting AM and 3:40-4:30 PM

            Thursday – 7:30-7:55 AM and 3:40-4:30 PM

            Friday – 7:30-7:55 AM and 3:40-4:30 PM.
